SUNDAY DINNER - NO COOK MEAL IDEAS (DISASTER PLANNING)
As much of the East Coast prepares for a looming “Frankenstorm” called Sandy, this week’s “Sunday Dinner” is reflecting a situation thousands of us could face over the next few days . . . the lack of electricity.
It’s not as fancy or exciting as last week’s Cajun Shrimp Alfredo, but it’ll quench that hunger until your power is restored, you can venture out for food, or the weather is clear enough for the grill to be light up!
So here are some reasonable ideas for no power cooking (noting that some pantry stocking was done) because it’s other pantry items besides CHIPS & COOKIES.
And “NOODLES” is not on this list because you need HOT WATER to make the noodles lol.
**Make sure you have a MANUAL CAN OPENER**
*Lunch meat sandwiches, Cheese & crackers, Chicken Salad, Salad (naturally, eat what you can out the refrigerator, if power stays off for days, it’s going to go bad anyways)
*Tuna Wraps (Tuna can always be eaten out of the can)
*Cereal (Using powdered/condensed milk)
*Fruit Salad (Using canned or fresh fruit)
*Cucumbers & Vinegar
*Peanut Butter and . . . jelly sandwiches, wraps, crackers, celery, apples
*Tuna salad (Remember relish, mayo are shelf items before refrigerated, stock up on small jars of these items to use for no cook meals)
*Homemade Pizza (shelf stable ingredients like Parmesan cheese, tomato sauce, pizza crusts (wraps), onions, can make a homemade pizza)
*Spam or potted meat sandwiches
